Prof. Dr. Mowafak Yahiya Hamdoon, President of the Northern Technical University have met the delegation of the International Society for the Protection of the Tigris River. The International Association is a social society which has objectives and means to save the Tigris River through preparing groups of civil activists who want to be volunteers to protect the Tigris River from the effects of pollution and misuse of river water which is considered a great fortune. The delegation included the head of the regional branch of the organization in Iraq, Salman KhairAllah, and the international water expert, Mister Tom. The meeting was attended by the Assistant of president for Administrative Affairs Mr. Majid Hamid Majid, Assistant and Dr. Abdul Sattar Esmair, Dean of the Agricultural Technical College/ Mosul , Director of the research Center of Dams and water resources at the University of Mosul and Assistant Teacher Sabah Salim, head of the National Treatment Department in the Remote Sensing Center at Mosul University , a representative of the Nineveh Department of Agriculture and a team of teachers of the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Mosul and the Department of Water Resources at the Technical Institute Mosul. The delegation discussed the problems facing the country in terms of water wealth. The participants agreed to form a joint working team and select a group of civilian activists to train them to monitor pollution in the Tigris. It was also agreed to hold a scientific conference early next year at the Northern Technical University. The conference will discuss plans to preserve the safety of the Tigris River and the effects of irrigation projects and dams on river safety and propose successful scientific solutions. It was also agreed to include the graduate students who are concerned with water resources in the research plans of water pollution, treatment and supporting them.
